Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Wilmington OH
118 PM EDT Thu Aug 14 2025

.SYNOPSIS...
Surface high pressure building across the Great Lakes will offer
mainly dry conditions through the end of the week, with only a stray
shower or storm each afternoon possible along and south of the Ohio
River. Cooler near normal temperatures are expected through the end
of the week with a warming tend developing this weekend into early
next week. Chances for showers and storms increase early next week as
a frontal boundary drops into the region.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
West-northwest mid level flow across the area with a rather weak
embedded shortwave rippling thru the Ohio Valley today. Marginal
instability with BL CAPE values approaching 1000 J/KG in the post
frontal zone have allowed for an isold threat for a shower or
thunderstorm mainly south of the Ohio River.

These diurnally driven showers/storms to end quickly late in the day
with surface high pressure building across the Great Lakes. Expect
mainly clear sky conditions with the potential for valley fog
overnight. Low temperatures drop into the lower 60s northeast to
near 70 southwest.

&&

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
Mid level ridge to build into the nations mid section. Although ILN/s
area will be around the periphery of it`s center we will begin to
observe some height and thickness rises. This will result in
slightly warmer temperatures Friday. Expect highs in the upper 80s to
the lower 90s.

Diurnally driven cumulus clouds to dissipate with the loss of
daytime heating Friday evening. Light winds and clear skies will
likely lead to the development of valley fog by Saturday morning.
Low temperatures to range from the upper 60s to around 70.

&&

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Broad large scale ridging remains in place over much of eastern
CONUS at the start of the extended period. This, coupled with surface
high pressure to our east, continues to fuel the warming trend
across our region. Concurrent with this, a shortwave moving through
Canada will drag an influx of precipitable water values into the
region Saturday into Sunday. These factors will result in apparent
temperatures nearing Heat Advisory criteria in spots beginning
Saturday, but moreso on Sunday, possibly lingering into early next
week. Have decided to add mention of this to the HWO in an attempt to
encourage planning and preparation.

The shortwave that will be swinging through Canada may be able to
dig into the CONUS ridge enough to provide forcing for some showers
and thunderstorms late weekend into the early work week, though
ensemble guidance has backed off on PoPs considerably. This trend
indicates that ensembles are beginning to favor the ridge holding on
a bit longer before it begins to breakdown.

By midweek, there are some hints that the ridge will dampen a bit
and retrograde to the west, allowing more significant troughing (and
cooling/precip chances) to move over the region.

&&

.AVIATION /18Z THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Diurnally driven cumulus clouds to dissipate this evening leaving
mainly clear skies. Light winds and clear skies will lead to river
valley fog by daybreak Friday morning, mainly in fog prone areas of
KLUK and KILN. Fog coverage is expected to be less than this morning.

After fog quickly improves Friday after sunrise expect VFR conditions
with scattered cumulus clouds.

Northeast winds at 5 to 10 kts will become light east overnight and
southeast at 5 to 10 kts Friday.

OUTLOOK...No significant weather expected.
